Looking for a new DC project

MDE

Lifer
DISCLAIMER: I'm NOT leaving F@H.

I'm looking for something that uses less RAM and has a more elegant installation for multiprocessor systems. A project similar in goals to F@H would be preferred. I'll be running it on an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ @ 2.5-2.7GHz.

I found myself in a situation similar to yours a while back MDE

Rosetta has VERY similar goals to F@H.

My X2s love it and I do too.

now for the catch phrase... (tee hee)

******* Rosetta@Home: The project you really CAN crunch for the SCIENCE ******

(I just made that up 😛 )

What's the recommended version of BOINC to use? I'm assuming the latest, but there may be uber-optimized versions floating around.

To start out, install the 5.2.13 version of BOINC. Then attatch to the project of your choice. (you enter the URL of the project homepage and enter your e-mail addy. and a password of your choosing)

Then I chose to optimize using TruXoft 5.6
(use the SSE2 version)
I followed the directions to add the report_results_immediately and the set_CPU_affinity commands as well.

In the Rosetta preferences, I like to set the connect to the internet every ___ days to 2.0 and it is important to set the leave application in memory while preempted to YES. (this one may be in the general preferences section)

Don't forget to join TeAm AnandTech 😛

OOPS: I forgot to say those preferences I mentioned are under the 'your account' link from the project homepage if you choose Rosetta it's here

jeeze, another edit:

The truxoft instructions say to replace the boinc.exe file of your installation file with the one downloaded.... you actually need to past ALL the downloaded files that come with the 5.3.6 into your BOINC installation diretory (say yes to replace files)

I downloaded/installed/setup the latest windows version of Boinc from Berkely & then replaced the boinc executable with an optimized one from http://boinc.truxoft.com/

Watch for MalariaControl for BOINC when they open account creation again.

You can find links to info here.

It is supposed to be a short lived project after it gets going.

You know how sometimes someone comes around complaining that DC doesn't get any real world results?

Well I think this project will have fast real world results. If the data helps 1% fewer people from getting malaria it will mean many thousands of lives saved!

They closed account creation before I had a chance to make one but petrusbroder created a [TA]TAS account that I am crunching a core on. (If he hadn't I would have crunched under RA if they would of had me) (I know a missionary whose wife is recovering, slowly, from malaria)

Look for it to come out of beta soon 😀

If you don't want to join one of the "huge corporate conglomerates" 😀 I'm willing to let anyone crunch the Malaria project under my name as well until you are able to create your own account. Just send me a PM and I'll give you the info to attach.
