Discover Card or one of the Citibank cards.

You'll most likely be eaten up by MBNA America, though... They have loads of "unsuspecting" cards out there ;)

I read recently a study of several common cards and Discover came out on top for the highest rewards for the average user. And since it is cash, you can do whatever you want instead of being locked into a discount for an item you might not want by the time you have enough rewards to get it. But of course Discover has problems - most specifically that it isn't accepted everywhere. And in some particular cases you may get more back with another card.

Other cards often advertise higher rewards, but have so many restrictions that most people end up better off with discover. For example, I just got a 5% cash back ad in the mail - it was 0.75% cash back for purchases below $20000, 5% cash back from $20000-$25000, and nothing back for purchases beyond that.

People here seem to love Amex Blue. I haven't looked into it myself.

Discovercard is a good card. But it isn't accepted everywhere like the others... but it is a good card......

and they pay good too, not just cashback, but wages also, but yea... even though i work there, it is a good card because i can get it to work for me...

as far as no restrictions that is correct, plus they are having a lot of 5% cashback programs this year...

and you get cash, not points.... cash...

I use Providian or Chase for Rewards, Chase gives me 3% on gas 1% on the rest, Providian is a straight 1% on everything. No limits to rewards, Chase has a $20 annual fee, but it gets waved if you use it atleast 9 times a year.

n666 - On average how much do you charge on your credit cards every month? What's the most?

see thats the thing.. i've had my bofa card with a 1000 limit for a while.. used it a couple times..
most of the time i just use my atm card

but i spend at least 40-50 bucks on gas weekly so i think that would be an ok expense..

i mean the most i charge would be up to 5k per month.. or something like that..

Discover? Die. Die Horribly.

Discover was originally started by Sears. (Or was it Macy's? Some department store) They have the worst customer support I've ever seen. They're like the Packard Bell of credit cards.

American Express is good if you do online purchases. Their chargeback/charge dispute services are top-notch.

Get the Citibank Platinum Select Dividend. Flat 1% on all purchases, and 5% on all supermarket/groceries and gas purchases.

Most of the other cash back cards have a tiered cash back system, so be sure to read how you are credited with the rewards.

Hope this helps.
