looking for a new camcorder

So i'm trying to find the best small hidef camcorder. (this is for my dad). after some reading, it seems that avchd camcorders are the way to go since they give you media flexibility.

my dad is enamored with 3ccd camcorders...are there any small 3ccd avchd camcorders?

we currently have a canon gl2, but we don't use it nearly enough due to its size, and anyway its time to upgrade to HD.

does anyone have experience with avchd camcorders they would like to share? i've been looking at the canon hf10.

I played with a bunch of camcorders at Fry's recently and frankly for the money its hard to beat the HF10/100 series from Canon. They just felt a lot more solidly constructed and better in the hand than comparable Sony/Panasonic models. I ordered the hf100 and look forward to getting it monday 😀 If you have the money to spend on the HF10 i would just because you have the drive to record AVCHD and finding SD memory that can support the bandwidth required to record at full rate is hard to find - apart from Sandisk Extreme III it doesn't seem like there is any that will from the forums posts out there to read.
 
picked up an hf11, similar to the hf10 but with 32gb built in. recorded some stuff and played it on the projector....WOW.

the HF11 also has a higher bitrate, which is what i was going to come in and say to get if price wasn't an issue.. heh.

anyone have comparisons of 17mbps vs 24mbps raw files? I would like to a new camcorder too.. but we still have an old panasonic GS120 that is great.. just.. miniDV and not HD =( we spent so much on it too....
