Looking for a new BD player... < $250

I was really hoping that oppo would have release a BDP-90 to replace the 80 on the low end... alas it looks like they will not be doing that.

So I need a decent blu ray player for my living room to replace my Oppo 980 upconvert dvd.

i have an Onyko TX SR605b and a Samsung 61in LED DLP.
(reciever supports Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS-HD Master Audio)

Main things:
1 excellent DVD upconvert
2 blu ray compatibility, fast loading,
3 wireless internet for BD 2.0 live.

most other stuff is just gravy.

still looking. At this time considering
Panasonic DMP-BDT-x10 line... either the 110 or the 210. Also considering the DMP-BDT-100 sears has on clearance for $139.

210 would be nice for the wireless, but I could even go to the 75, since neither my TV nor reciever support 3d/hdmi 1.4

If I dont go panasonic, I was looking at the the Sony bdp-s380, but its reviews were somewhat lower.

any suggestions?

Can't you just save up for the Oppo 93? What you listed for your requirements pretty much has Oppo 93 written all over it.

$500 for a blue ray player isnt going to happen... probably ever.
Not since I had to get a new truck, have a 1yr old child, and planning #2.

Well I can give you 2 out of the 3 then for that price (BD compatibility and DVD upscaling). See if you can find a Pioneer 320 or Elite 23. They are great players and you may be able to find them for < $200. They're basically the last of the true Pioneer BD players.

6ave.com has the Pioneer 320 for $299, but you should be able to find it for much cheaper than that elsewhere. Try Best Buy. They may still have one in stock (it's a stretch though).

Or you can always go with the PS3. The best BD compatible player on the market (better than Oppo), wifi built in, but a so-so DVD upscaler. All for $299.

Just picked up a Sony from Costco for $100 and it even included the HDMI cable 🙂

Seriously I can't see how anyone can tell the difference in video or audio output between this and a $500 player.

The video on my 50" plasma is spectacular and the player works flawlessly including the built in apps.

differences can be seen in the quality of dvd upconversion from SD to 1080P.

The Oppo is just a much better player, but also take into consideration it is a universal player. It will play 3D BD, BD, DVD, CD, DVD-A and SACD. It also does a fantastic job with upscaling DVDs, and is equipped with built in apps like Netflix. Concerning BD, a key feature with the Oppo is source direct. This basically take the source material and outputs it raw, normally to an external processor. For me, I like source direct because it lets me output the video to my monitor where I can take advantage of its 72Hz refresh rate giving me smoother pans in the movie. The Pioneer players have that option too, but I don't know of other players in the < $500 range that have that option.

On the audio side, the Oppo most likely has better DACs than your receiver so you could take advantage of the player's better sound through its analog section. It also does a great job of down mixing to 2 channel for headphones.

Anyway, the Oppo 93 IMO is a great deal at $500, but it really depends on what you are going to do with the player. If you just want to play BDs through HDMI, $500 may be a little on the steep side. However, I think $500 for a BD player with Oppo's BD compatibility track record and superior customer service is well worth it. But that's just me. I personally would go for the Oppo 95 just because it looks better than the 93. 😉

I'm not really sure if anything in your price range is going to significantly outperform your Oppo in this department.

Also, BD-Live hasn't been used well on any disc I've seen. It's mostly used just to stream more recent trailers than what came on this disc (and you still can't skip them 🙁).

At this point...Im not necessaryily looks for a super upgrade...I dont need significant outperformance of my current oppo, but I do need something which does not perform any worse, slightly equal or better is acceptable.

I need to stop using my PS3 as my primary BR device (simulatneous use is becoming a necessity)... So I need to replace 2 devices (Ps3 + oppo DVD) with one device in my living room home theater.

Several sites including http://bluray-players.net/top-10-blu-ray-players/ list the panny 210 as being the #2-3 BR/DVD of this year, it also got very good reviews from newegg customers... A price of $169.99 is decent for a mainstream player of this calibre...just hoping for someone who actually has actually used it for an opinion.

I have a BDP-320 in the bedroom and it is a great player. The overall quality is way up there compared to many of the other "normal" players. It's only real downside is that it is slow, as most players from that time are.

just got the 2011 LG BD-670 which is the second from the top of the line 690 which has the HD built in.
Love it.
picked it up when Frys had the price listed at 165.00 on a 240.00 dollar player.. priced matched Best Buy and boom instant home savings.

Awesome picture and upscaling.. instant boot 3d capable, WIFI built in, Amazon VOD and many others including Netflix with search.. and it streams AWESOME from the PC including .MKVs for you bluray rippers.
