Looking for a new bass player, what should I do?

I posted about this before, and no one responded...

In my little group I have going, my bass player, though I love him dearly, isn't coming to rehearsals prepared, can't seem to get his act together lately, and keeps showing an increasing distance between himself and the kind of music we're doing.

SO...

I'm starting a look-out for a new one, just to try out and see if we click better in rehearsals perhaps. I've got one other guy in mind that I already know, but I'm also trying to find others. I tried musician.com, and while it's a very thorough site, the only ones I could find out-aged myself by a good 30 years or more. ;) So, any suggestions of where to looks? Obviously, local clubs and bars and whatnot would be an obvious move, but I live in a fairly small town, so those are rather sparse.

Any other sites, or ideas of where to look?

Check with the local musician's union hall. Inquire about local trade papers. Check the local music stores for bulletin boards and place ads on them.

Ads work wonders. Most of my friends have bands - they usually put an ad up in Media Play or in any of the free papers around here, then just have tryouts. Of course, I live in a city with lots of strugging artists (Buffalo) so it's a lot easier for us.
