I've known for awhile now that my viewsonic VX2025VM is too small for me, and I've been looking for a good 24"+ replacement for quite some time now. My problem is that it seems like monitors have been getting worse in a number of was of late. I don't want to take a step back in image quality, ghosting, or input lag. In all three of these areas my old viewsonic is pretty darn good, but with room for improvement. For the life of me, I can't find a 24"+ inch monitor that isn't a significant downgrade in one of these area. It seems like most are cheap TN crap with horrible IQ, and the few that have good IQ have far too much input lag. Price is not an object here, just looking for a new monitor that doesen't suck in any of those three areas.

Dell makes a really good 24". I've had mine for years now and it still looks great..no stuck pixels or anything. I game with it and have no problems.

If you want a good 24" LCD, you need to open your wallet, accept that you're not going to get a great one for $250, and stop looking at places that cater to cheapass soccer moms like Best Buy.

There is a solid Dell and HP for around $550 that don't use TN panels.

After that (as I understand it), there is a huge gap in price, but the quality also shoots way up. My friend has a 24" NEC that he bought for $1050 and I simply cannot imagine a better looking display.

You really get what you pay for with monitors. I always recommend expanding your budget for your system's monitor as far as possible because it's a component that you interact with 100% of the time spent with your computer. Get something that blows you away.

Money is not an object. The more expensive displays have good image quality, but tend to have horrible input lag.

Yep and I am in the same boat as you.

Actually, I currently have 2x Soyo Topaz S monitors. These were the MVA panels with less than a frame of input lag. Their IQ is great for the panel itself, but it lacks in sooo many other areas. It doesn't support HDCP and it has no 1080p support just 1650x1000 then jump to 1900x1200. No in between. The stand and bezel are about a cheap as cheap can be. Not to mention the other parts are bad. Actually, one of mine just blew some capacitors in the power supply that I need to replace this weekend. The fact it went dead after a couple years of use has spurred me to looking for possible replacements.

Basically I am looking for 24" or larger, great IQ, No input lag, no ghosting, HDCP, plenty of inputs, plenty of supported resolution modes, and no huge SDE going on.

Now part of the reason I picked up the Soyo's was because A) they were pretty much the best at the time in terms of input lag + IQ and B) I was able to pick them up for only $100 each brand new from Office Max when they were dumping them.

Right now though, price isn't an object. Not that I don't want to find a good deal, but I have a few thousand bucks to spend on something I really want.

The problem is there is no product out there that fits the bill. Guess it just back to waiting for something to come along and hope my Soyo's hold out long enough.

Ok, well then you probably know where this search is headed. You want the best of both worlds in one monitor, and there's no feasible way to create such a LCD. The LCD recommendation thread has a "Multimedia" list for just this purpose - the best monitors for all around use. Games, movies, office work.

I wouldn't say this means that all 24" monitors suck...

If you want this, buy the best gaming monitor and the best production level monitor and use both.

EDIT: if I totally misunderstand, then I apologize.

EDIT 2: ok, I reread. Sounds like you just want a monitor that is an upgrade from your VX2025VM in every way. Does the latest Dell 24" not fit the bill?

I too would like to upgrade but along with those features I'm want 120Hz. It was an exciting feature that seemed to only make it in 22" TN monitors.

It's one that I've been seriously looking at, but I have a few concerns. The first is that Dell doesen't have a good reputation for putting out problem-free first revision monitors. The 2nd is that Dell has an equally bad reputation for changing components of a monitor in mid-life cycle, which could make finding an equivelent monitor/s for eyefinity very difficult in the future. The 3rd is that I don't like the idea of having a laggy "quality mode" and a non-laggy "game mode", I'd rather have 1 mode that has great quality AND no lag. 4th and final is that the only place in Canada that has the U2410 in stock is the Dell store, and I have a feeling that I will be able to get one cheaper once it gets picked up by a few etailers. Price isn't really an object, but at the same time I don't want to overpay. For example, on the american site it's 530 with free shipping, on the canadian site it's 750 plus shipping.

Best 24" if money is no object is the Sony FW900.

Indeed, but even if I could get ahold of one I don't want the weight, size, or heat of it.

I would say the NEC 2490 or the U2410...both will have compromises...there is not many that have said bad things about the 2490. Once the stock on hand goes away so does the A-TW polarizers.
