looking for a media player

I'd like to bring movies to my friends on a USB key and then watch on that TV. She has an HDMI input free. What media player will do this?

(or a tiny media player with USB to load it)

Doesn't look like that has any way to load files to it.
No USB.

So I can save files onto it from a key and play those video files?

Yes, most people lean towards installing SPMC (An Android specific flavor of Kodi), but any player that you are comfortable with can be used to make playing your "USB Movie stick" simpler.

If I can save mp4 video files onto the 8 gigs, and then take my key back home, this is the perfect solution.

What's the benefit of KODI over something like MXPlayer?

MXPlayer is a stand-alone player- which is just fine. Kodi has additional features and functions for media consumption that may/ may not matter to you.
