Hey all,

I'm running an Abit KT7A right now and I bought a GF4 card that I just can't get to work right. I've been reading about all of the compatibility and stability issues with Abit & the VIA chipsets but no matter what I do, I can't get things working....sooo, I'm considering a motherboard change. I've already spent my wad on the Gf4 card, so I need to do this on a budget, which means I'm hoping to continue to use my SDRAM and stay away from DDR for now. So, what are the recommendations for a Socket A, SDRAM motherboard....hopefully without compatibility problems with a GF4?

TIA

Have you got the neweest Bios update for the board? Also the newwest Via 4in1's??

Then go into the Bios and set the AGP to 2X (Not 4x)

What OS are you running and what problems are you having per say

I've the BIOS that supposed fixed the compatibility issue (9R). The latest, 443 4-in-1 drivers. I've tried AGP 1X, 2X & 4X...nothing works. I'm running WinXP Pro, SP1.
Machine boots fine and runs windows fine, but in D3D it chokes. When I run 3dMark2001SE, it gets to a point and crashes....sometimes BSOD (with no consistency to the error message), or it just drops to the desktop with no error message at all. The point at which it crashes is fairly inconsistent as well, but more times than not its in test #2, the high detail car chase.

I am considering a new power supply as well.. I figure I can buy one and try it, if it fixes my problem, I'll keep it. If it doesn't I can always return it :) I'm using a Antec TruePower 300W right now, which I know is marginal (180W TCO). I did unplug everything except the motherboard & hard drive to try to save power, but that didn't solve the problem either.

Also have you tried somne older Video drivers? I know that Nvidia cards are touch on the AMD 760MPX board(Dual CPU) that is why I am running a Ati card.

But maybe someone know better than I. When I had my KT7 boad I was running a GF2 mx just fine, so I don't know.

Also have you tested the card in another machine just to make sure???
