Looking for a laser printer for home

I have recently begun a search for a laser printer for my home and I seek advice. I have decided to go laser due to the insane prices of ink cartridges and since I don't need color. The printer will basically be used just to print text and no real bulk printing jobs. I would like to know about any good/bad experiences you've had with small laser printers or anything relative that you'd like to share. Thanks in advance.

People seem to like those Samsung lasers, search Hot Deals forum, under $100.

I'm happy with my Brother HL-5040 ($200-300) but it does suck down the juice, lights flicker a little just like on the 10-year-old HP 4ML that it replaced.

HP 6L is a good suggestion too, HPs last forever (or 10 years anyway 🙂 )

anyone recommend a printer that can be plugged right to the router/hub?

also, are all-in-one printers typically worse than just regular printers?

I can definitely recommend the HP 1200. That little printer is VERY quick (From cold to first page out in less than 10 seconds) and it prints very nicely. The toner also lasts the rated life with my use (first toner was 2560 vs. 2500 rating). I have never had any issues with it and I have it plugged into my USB hub right now.

i actually like the 6p or 6mp better depending on if you want postscript native. the 6l was a little weak and had trouble feeding sometimes. the 6mp and 6p were built like tanks.
i've got the 6l and a canon photoprinter. all i ever need.

just got a hp 1012 laserjet 129.00

supposedly on black friday it will be on sale at staples for 99.00

seems like an excellent little laser printer..usb hookup

Wait till you can get any for under $100. I've heard good things about the Brother, Minolta, and Samsung, and they've all been under that cost.

I have to say that my Brother HL-1440 is starting to make a few random drops of toner on the pages it prints though 🙁

Whatever you do, do not buy the Brother 1440 - a huge hunk of junk. To be fair, the printer itself is good, but it's the POS drum and toner catridges that fail way too soon. My drum never lasts over 8000 pages, even though it's rated at 20k. I never run out of toner before the toner cartridge itself starts to leak, forcing me to junk it prematurely.

Vegetation, did your drum start going bad with a few random tiny black spots on the page? When did that start happening, and how bad was it when it started getting bad?

<--seems to have an HL-1440 that's starting to screw over.

Your toner is leaking if you get those spots or streaks going down the page. Buy a new toner cartridge and it will be fine (until it happens again). Do nothing and the problem will become worse and worse, and will spill toner all inside the rollers and such. I suggest junking this printer and going for a Samsung or something, as the problem will keep repeating itself! If that's not bad enough, your drum will go bad sooner or later, that's a $100+ replacement part. I figured my cost per page is actually no better than an inkjet with this POS.
