I'm currently looking a laptop for gaming, right now I've been looking at the Dell 9300 and I'm thinking of getting it, but people tell me Dell is a bad choice.

Should I just get the Dell or should I look for a different laptop?

Also if I should get a different laptop, what laptop should I get?

Dell is an excellent choice. Just get a 3 year warranty (which I recommned with ANY laptop).

Other good brands would be IBM or Toshiba.

I've had 3 Dells and the worst problem was a bad HD in one after about a year of use...nothing else wrong.

I currently have a 600m and love it.

The 9300 is a good book...I've upgraded a few and they seem pretty nice.

If your going to get a dell, get a latitude series, the quality is just so much better. I'd get an IBM IMO. T series prefferably.

If you're looking at gaming notebooks, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. VoodooPC makes excellent machines, but you are going to pay 4k+ for a fully loaded one.

The Dell 9300 is a nice system with a decent graphics chip and its the system I was settling on before opting for a Sager 5720 from PC Torque. IBM's systems are usually pretty solid, but their graphics chips are usually a step or two behind the latest generation, and I don't know how their quality is since they are owned by Lenovo now.

Toshiba's, I wouldn't touch those things with a 10 foot pole. I've owned 1, worthless POS. Every few weeks the stupid thing would break in some way. Either the lid latch would break, the harddrive would fail, the battery would suddenly fail to charge, etc. It was always something. Get a good warranty and pray to the powers if you buy a Toshiba.

Curious: Which IBM 17" notebook is everyone recommending?

Everyone but IBM seems to make a 17" notebook. Go over to notebookforums.com and check out the info there. A lot of happy 9300 owners out there. Besides the XPS-2 there is not a lot of competion in the 6800/centrino 17" market. Gateway now has a centrino based 17" but the best you can get is an X600. Some people love the alienware's/sagers, other hate them (esp alienware service). Toshiba 17" quioasmoa (or whatever it's called) seemed solid and well built playing with it at circuit city but it's pricey and some people hate toshiba for some reason.

But as everyone else said: Get the 3 year waranty. Get the complete care. Buy the laptop and don't worry about it.....
