It's the kit that you pop in an IDE drive and it makes it an external drive that connects via USB. I've found a couple for around $60. Anyone know of somewhere else that has 'em cheap?

Thanks,

Fabio

try hanging around in the Hot Deals Forums. They usually post sales to these usb2 3.5" enclosures... I've seen some as low as 25-30$ but wasn't really interested. Another couple of questions to ask is what chipsets are in these enclosures and which are good. Different enclosures use different chipsets. Some chipsets are more stable/faster/reliable in storing data (some of the cheap ones can corrupt data if you're not too careful).

Hope that helps.

People said good things about the $35 enclosures DealSonic sells, try a search of archived threads with "dealsonic" (here and in Hot Deals) for specific models.

go to newegg.com

Do a search on the name "speeze"

They make an all metal enclosure called the metal gear box that you can find in just USB 2, USB2/firewire, and USB2/SATA.

I have the metal gear box model that's firewire and USB 2.0... Works great, installation was painless, and performance is good. It needs no fan thanks to it's mesh side design and metal case for cooling.

Mine has only gotten warm to the touch with a 7200 drive, had a 5400 rpm in it and couldn't even hear it as well heat was hardly noticeable.
