88 keys, something ~ 200 dollars, anyone have any suggestions? My brother has it in his head he wants to play one, just like the guitars he owns but doesn't know how to play.

Thanks in advance.

Then why are you buying him a keyboard?

Are there keyboards that make the sound of a genuine grand and have keys that feel like a real piano?

It'd probably cost around the price of a low end grand. I asked my coworker, who has played for over 20 years and has a baby grand, about suggestions for a good electronic keyboard and he couldn't suggest anything that I thought would be affordable. He mentioned he found one that was kinda nice and it costs a few thousand. He has extremely high standards and is used to the real thing, so go figure. A grand piano can cost as much as a nice car. The keys on an electric keyboard can be close, but probably never the same. I think it's the return speed, so assuming you wanted play something faster, it wouldn't work for you.

Anyways, back on topic. I'd be interested in hearing options within the OP's price range too.

If I can afford to get him something he wants and I think it will make him happy, I will, I don't find that illogical.

I agree it's completely silly he doesn't use the things he asks for (he has a PSP that has sat in a box since he got it), but it's not my call, I just try to make the people I care about happy.

I'd like to have this question answered myself. I quit the piano years ago, and now I wish I hadn't. I don't have space for a real piano, so I'd like to know what my best bet at simulating my old piano is. Sorry if I'm threadjacking, I just wanted the OP's question answered instead of reading about why he shouldn't buy one.

I love the feel of a real piano, but I wanted something for my room which is extremely small. Priorities if buying something intended to mimic a grand would be the weightedness of the keys and the sound of the instrument. I guess it's not worth it right now though.

I still have to buy my electric guitar once I get enough money. ;)

88 keys for $200 is going to be very hard to find. I'd go with something smaller. perhaps the Yamaha psr-e313? sounds good and is only $189. granted it's only 61 keys, but you gotta make compromises. i used to play on a Yamaha psr-280 (in fact, i still have it. gathering dust in the basement.) it was OK for a beginner. it doesn't come close to the feel of a real piano. nothing except the real thing does.
