Hey I really want a job putting computers together, I can do most everything aside from setting up a raid configuration, but I'm sure I can learn, I'm located in Central NJ, Does anyone have any advice of how to find a job like this, I know STAPLEs and officemax, and all the big guys, have coroprate offices for this stuff, I called up and they said they have agencies do that stuff, but I'm not sure how true that is, It's kind of hard though becuase I'm only 17, and I know alot of people are going to be put off by that. Thanks in advance for any help.

so you're still in HS? My vote would be to get a job at MickeyD's then go to college and get a degree in CS. Then while you're in your senior year, get an internship at a big company doing whatever it is you want to do, then graduate with a great GPA (because you didn't work too much did ya?) Then get a job and voila, you in da money!

Not wanting to burst your bubble but anyone can put computers together. Installing an operating system, getting all the drivers to work as well as all of the pre-installed software to work properly is slightly different. My advice- Find another line of work.

Go knocking around to local computer shops. That should get you some "real world" experience. Then you can start chasing after the money via agencies and/or small companies.

True, if you like working with computers, get a degree in something related, and then go from there.

We'll when I ment I built the computer's I ment drivers and everything, I've built 4 computers over the summer for my friends, I've never worked with Linux though, but I'm not sure if alot of people do, I would love not to work during high school, but I need a car, I'm also working hard right now in Daycare, and I set up the wireless network there, my father and uncle are computer technicians, and they work for Compaq fixing and putting together computers, So I've been trained well, but my father and mother got divorced and I never see him, so I can't get a job thru him, and my uncle is in Florida Lol.

Do you plan on going to college?

Also, work at CompUSA or be a member of the Geek Squad, if you need some extra bucks and want to do day to day computer repairs. This would be a good part time job, that would get you good work expieriance.

Yes, a LOT of people work with Linux. You want to get a great job as a sysadmin...learn Linux. Learn it, love it, sing to it, curse at it, but whatever you do, get good at it. I know way more people that have gotten jobs as Linux sys admins without having to go to college. If I could do part of my life over again, I'd have gotten on the Linux bandwagon a lot sooner. I remember getting some Redhat 5 cd's (don't even know what kernal that was) but I never had the patience to get into it. Curse Windows 95 and it's addictive games at the time (decent, doom, etc...)
