Guys I plan to start searching for a job as a DBA or a java programmer from today onwards. Whats the best way to go about it? Is there some really good website which posts the current jobs available?
Thanks

Just don't waste all your time on boards like monster.com

Put something on your resume you're doing now like "April-02 - Present - studying for Sun Java cert"

go to any job fairs if available and networking is key...unfortunately I don't really know how to do that either :) Look up recruiting and job agencies in the paper as well and be aggressive with them.

I agree with Skoorb, places like monster.com are a waste of time.

Try looking into a temp agency or two. Yeah its only temp work but its money, experience and a good opportunity to "network" with others.

The market is tough, the more people you know the better.

well I will look for temp jobs too thanks. But if monster.com is useless how else do I even begin looking for a real job?? Or should I simply give up and wait for economy to improve further??

I'd keep looking, jobs are bound to open sooner or later. Finding a computer job is pretty tough right now, but the more certification you have, the better chance you'll have at getting a decent job. Having many skills is key, and so is knowing a good bit about networking. Connectivity seems to a be a big part in most computer oriented jobs these days.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing with regard to "temp jobs", but try getting in touch with placement reps at consulting firms in your area. I was out of a job for six months (January through June), and I'd say 90% of the calls I received were from local consulting shops and one large one (RHI). I just gave them a call, told them I was looking for a job, gave them my skillset, then they went out and tried to market me. It may turn up nothing, but every avenue helps.

p.s. I found the national job boards to be COMPLETELY useless for the entire six months. Computerjobs.com, monster.com, dice.com etc were all just a waste of time. However, if you have boards that are specific to your area, check those out as they can sometimes be goldmines.
