I'm considering buying a subwoofer to go with my Dayton BR-1 bookshelf speakers. Right now, I'm eyeing the 8" Dayton subwoofer at Parts-express for around $100.

Any other ideas for subs around that price range?

I don't know anything about the Energy sub other than it's a generally respected brand. I used to use a Dayton 12" and it was respectable for the price but the current versions Parts Express sells are a different configuration than my older down-firing model. The Energy's specs claim frequency response down to 33Hz @ -3dB vs. the Dayton's 40Hz so I might lean toward the Energy for that reason.

Oh wow. I have that Energy 8" sub in my PC setup. I wasn't sure what to expect, but REALLY like it. Its not overpowering as its only 8", but the bass it puts out is very crisp, which is what I want out of it.

I've heard the 10" Dayton and wasn't that impressed, so considering the price works out the same I'd definitely go with the Energy.

Another option would be the 8" ASW-8 from tSc. $99 w/ free shipping, and free return shipping if you decide you don't like it.

That's another sub I was looking at. How would it compare to the Energy sub? I've heard they're near identical. The TSC sub looks more interesting because it's cheaper over (with shipping), plus I've heard the 10% off coupons still work.

I haven't heard the tSc sub myself, though I have some other tSc stuff and have been quite happy with those. The sub certainly does bear a resemblance to the Energy sub, but I couldn't tell you for sure if it shares a design or not.

If nothing else, it wouldn't cost you anything to try it out with the free return shipping policy..
