Looking for a "how to build a network datacenter" class

Anyone know of a class I could take (thru a company like www.globalknowledge.com) that would be something like the fictitious ad below?

"How to Build a Network Datacenter"

You can be an e-startup company too! Learn what to look for in a facility that you want to make into a datacenter (size, WAN connection availability from network providers, power requirements, redundant cooling). Learn all about rackmount equipment (size standards with 1U, 2U, 4U etc, how they mount, where to mount them) and types of enclosures (cooling fans built in, security, wire management, other add ons, major vendors). Learn about blade technology. Learn how to arrainge non-rackmount equipment in your enclosures such as modems and monitors and keyboards. Learn considerations for different types of equipment (servers, switches/hubs, patch panels/wire management, monitor/keyboard consoles).

My server room is a mess and I would like to make it with the times. There is an enclosure here (besides the mainframe) and it has 3 patch panels and nothing else in it. I think using it more is my key to cleaning this room up and conserving space. I need to learn the things above in order to do this. I also am considering offering other services here in my IS department and I need to know these things in order to look forward as well.

Thanks in advance!

You're always welcome to come up and visit my workplace(here in west Michigan) - our server room is pretty much on target with clean, up-to-date, and first-class! Took alot of work, let me tell ya! 😉

Or if you happen to be down in Knoxville, TN you can drop by and see how we did it at Digital Crossing. That is really all we do, just one big datacenter for companies to colo in.

"How to build a network datacenter" class??

You mean you don't already have one setup in you basement or livingroom? :Q

😛

Classes like that are usually 3-day to 5-day (often very expensive) seminars that travel from city to city. Most are given by the network hardware or server hardware companies (eg., Cisco, IBM, Compaq, Sun). If you have certain brands and types of routers and/or servers, you could check on their websites to see if they're offering any training classes for networking their stuff. Consider looking for the buzzword "Enterprise Networking" in the class titles as well.

Another place to check out are the websites targetting ISPs and coloc facilities. In fact, that's probably your best bet - to monitor the ISP lists, etc., cause basically, creating and maintaining datacenters for hosting, etc., is what they do. 🙂

If I'm not mistaken, I think Wiz is an ISP. If so, he or any other ISP TA posters might be helpful!
