Hello all, I'm in the market for a very nice LCD monitor. Only requirements are 16ms response time and 19" or bigger. I'm willing to spend $1,000 - 1500.

I've been researching and shopping around, but there are so many models and so many conflicting reviews. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks very much!

I would HIGHLY recommend the Dell 2001FP. I have two of these myself and use them for graphics design (have em hooked to a dual dvi matrox card) and also I use one for gaming. They look incredible and I have had no trouble at all. They game great. Anand's review complains a bit about not enough ventillation but that seems untrue to me, mine are fine.

The best thing is if you get a deal from Dell where they are discounted you can easily grab one for $800, which is a steal for a 20.1" LCD. Right now they are $900, that's still in your range.

The 2001FP uses the exact same panel and is ~$200.00 cheaper.

Thanks for the info guys....on dell's site it doesn't say what the response time of the 2001FP is, we're sure it's 16ms?

Thanks again!

There's a high end LCD

The Samsung 213t is an all around nicer monitor than the Dell, although it doesn't have a 16ms response time, ghosting is minimal. Go to your local Best Buy, CompUSA or Fry's and try it yourself. Tell them you want to see it hooked up to a DVI connection. If they seem hesitant, tell them you'll go to one of the other stores. They love selling these $1300 monitors.

Hey Odin, do you know what Dell's policy is about dead pixel returns? I've been looking on their site but don't see anything. Did either of yours have a dead/frozen pixle prob?

Thanks again :)

I've got the 2001fp for a few months now. It really is a great monitor... it's sharp and I don't see any ghosting. As for dead pixels, I don't know what Dell's policy is but mine came with 1 dead pixel on the left side (stuck on red) and that's it... it's barely noticeable unless you REALLY look for it. I can't be sure, but I've heard that the dead pixel rate of the 2001fp is pretty good (1 or 2 dead pixels/monitor). I'd say to wait until Dell has some good sales (~$750) on the monitor before you buy... they should come around every month or so.

I'm not totally sure about the return policy, I think it's like 3-5 within a 1" square or something...but depending on which tech you get you can probably work around it....tell them that you need one for some CAD work or something and you just can't have any bad pixels.

My first 2001FP was perfect, the second one has one pixel in the upper left which is dead...you can only tell on a light background (which I never use) and it's far enough up that the only time I notice it is when I have Photoshop open full screen so I didn't bother trying to send it back - it's acceptable to me.
