Looking for a heatsink to impress clients

This may sound a bit odd. I'm starting a computer design, repair, and consulting business and will be using my personal PC as one of my show pieces. Though I haven't used a case with a side panel window in several years, the FT01-BW I picked up recently has one, and it's starting to get a lot of attention from potential clients (something that my P182 SE and FT02 didn't get much of).

Currently I'm only using the stock Intel heatsink as I haven't needed to overclock for quite some time (perhaps in the future, though). I'm looking to replace it with something that LOOKS impressive. Better cooling would just be a nice side effect. Large tower coolers are nice, but they take up so much space that it's hard to see other components. I'm trying to stay away from anything massive. I would love to do water cooling again, but I don't have enough space in the case, nor enough time to properly maintain it these days. The type of people that see this computer aren't the ones that could easily go build one for themselves; they're the type that see what I'm running, like how it looks, and wonder how much it would cost to have something like that of their own.

Currently I'm considering the following:
Thermaltake Spinq (pricey considering the performance, but looks excellent)
Xigmatek Thor's Hammer (looks nice, bit expensive)
Prolimatech MegaShadow (big, but top-notch cooling)
Zalman CNPS 9700 NT (really expensive, poor performance)

Any other suggestions? Again, the primary focus is aesthetics, not performance.

well since you axed water cooling (UV tubing + frozenQ res = epic win), i would say that the mega shadow should be on the list of coolers to consider. thermalright venomous X looks really bad ass as well. spin Q doesnt even look that great tbh, it would be better if the fins were the part that spins, as is it looks like a poor mans attempt at a cheese grater. coolermaster V8 is worth considering, and car enthusiasts will love it when they see your system is sporting a V8 through the side panel :D. TRUE copper isnt a bad pick cause its all copper, but they're really hard to come by because they were limited in production quantities. the new thermaltake frio is interesting looking as well along the same line as the V8. there's probably others, those are just what i saw on short notice :)

ed: also, thermalright just demoed a few new ones at computex, might wanna look into them

I might catch some flack for mentioning it, but the H50 looks neat and always draws comments.

Barring that, maybe the Thermaltake V1 or ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED.

How about a Cooler Master GeminII S or Scythe Kabuto? These are top-down style instead of tower style, but they can be visually pleasing because you see the fan (put a clear LED one on it) and you see the heatpipes curving out from the base and into the fin structure.

Yeah, I could see the H50 being a good conversation piece. Plus, the OP would be able to show off all the other gear unobstructed. The H50 would be my choice if I wasn't using a custom loop.

Cogage Arrow with three fans. Fire-breathing fans.

If you stealth-mounted a PWM controlled, rear exhaust propane torch - that'd be enough to convince potential clients that you have the know-how to cool really hot components.

Not a heatsink or fan per se, but if you really want to impress some people, build a positive pressure rig in an acrylic case. Showing a system with no internal dust problems is pretty sexy for guys who have built and run a few systems.

I would go with the h50 or Megashadow.

Some serious h50 bling:

NH-D14, Megahalems (MegaShadow no longer available), Armaggedon, Cogage Arrow . . . with blue LED fans.

For example, Rosewill RFX-120BL are stunning. And here are a couple of Thermaltake A2018's. And you can get Yate Loon D12SH's with LED's.

The OP said he didn't want something big enough to cover up other components. Granted, he risks covering up some relatively non-exceptional doodads around the CPU socket and maybe two memory slots, so I wouldn't think the Arrow or nh-d14 would be that big of a problem.

I didn't know they stopped selling the megashadow. When did that happen?

Positive pressure doesn't eliminate all dust, though. :p My last two cases were the FT01-BW and FT02-B, both of which use positive pressure. While they're far less dusty than negative pressure cases, they still do get dirty over time. I went from cleaning the case every 1-2 months to cleaning it every 3-4 months. Not bad, IMO.

H50 is a good choice. Heck, if you're just going for looks spray paint it gold before you install it. (Not the base, obviously.) People like shiny.

So far I'm going on 2 months without a spec of dust.
Using a modified Filtrete micron furnace filter.

Good enough, so far, though not quite in the "sexy" league as a big water cooled setup with several led fans. Gotta balance bling wiht functionality, I say.

Doesn't really get much more impressive than mine IMO :)

not to bad, but i think i got you beat :awe:. yes, i know i need to redo the tubing coming off my res, gonna do that next time i need to drain it for some reason, to lazy to do it now. that's the same rig as in my build log thread btw, i just added some green feser view to it. looks better in person than in the pic as well, the CCFL inside is dispersing a lot more in the pic than when you look at it in person

it looks fucking amazing at night however, because i also have two 4 foot UV fluorescent lights i got from home depot for $30 total (10 for the fixture and 10 for each bulb), and they onlt really work well at night. my rig actually lights up the whole room when its on

Even if the H50 isn't exactly 'water cooling' I think people in general are more impressed by water cooling.

you're right that is quite old, i remember when you posted that ages ago. still looks pretty sexy now, i really wish i had the money to put in a GPU loop. now that i got my comp's gpu subsystem stable after a windows reinstall to get rid of some nvidia garbage that was causing BSODs, i wanna push my 2 ref 5870s to 1GHz core if possible, but i dont have the $240 for 2 full cover blocks, $100 for a 320 QP stack and a 120QP, and $100 for res and pump, not to mention where to mount it all inside my already PACKED case. i would probably have to just run it all single loop parallel if i did. you think that 1 655 could handle 2 QP rads stacked and cool 2 GPUs + the CPU without loosing head pressure cause of distance to horribly? i would have to change the fans im using on my rad, using 3 low speed red LED yates now, but i would probably replace them with enermax magma fans or possibly those new silverstone penetrators, would want to check benches. i dont have anything in the top area at all, but i could barely fit it all in without my cpu power connector getting in the way anyway. not ready to get a bigger case yet either lol
