bestbuy = bad dont talk to the reps they have no idea what they are talking about. when looking for an hdtv a word of advice the t.v's are going to looook very close in HD what you need to do is watch them in standard definition meaning regular tv or a tape.

Definately don't get a CRT. At this point spend the extra money and get a LCD. You can get many LCD's in the 600-800 during hot deals. There was one brand (not well known) but had very good reviews, I cannot remmeber the name but they had 26" LCD's for 600 dollars during hot deals.

CRT's will provide the best picture possible. Only get an LCD if you have space concerns or can't handle the weight.

I worked at Sears. I can tell you that the Toshiba HDTV's are kind of blurry in comparison to the competition. I would look into that samsung dynaflat. Great lookin set

I would probably go with a 4:3 32" vs a 16:9 30" right now. The fact is that the letterboxed 16:9 image on the 32" screen is going to be only about 1" smaller diagonally than the 30" widescreen, and it will display normal TV at a much larger size than the 30" Widescreen could unless you used some distorting zoom technique. My roommate went with a 32" 4:3 sony CRT HDTV (KV-32HS420) and we couldnt be happier.

In the long run widescreen will be the way to go, but we have so many 4:3 tv shows on DVD it just didnt make sense to go with a 16:9 television

I have the older version of this, really the only difference between mine and that one is the looks, and HDMI. I only have DVI on mine. this would be sweet. It's the smallest 1080P DLP tv there is out there I think.

If you're getting it specifically for gaming....

The xbox360 is specifying 720p in 16:9 to be a mininum supported format. IE that is (knowning developers, as I work for one) you can except few games to support higher resolutions as devs will use any extra power to drive more characters, effects etc and deliver an acceptable frame rate at 720p.

So consider getting a native 720p display. That way you wont have scaling issues. Direct view CRT HD sets do not support 720p native. Just 1080i. LCD's have all the same issues gaming on a PC with a LCD has. Watch for refresh rates, etc.

For $800 you're not going to get alot though. The best display for gaming at that price point will still be the direct view 16:9 CRT HD sets. Dont do 4:3 unless you only plan on keeping the set a very short while. All signs point to this christmas being the start of the larger consumer acceptance of HD and 16:9
