So we have a new video codec out HEVC, aka h.265. Better transparent compression than h.264/AAC at lower bit rates. Will allow me to shrink down all my ripped movie collection so I can fit more without having to buy a bigger drive.
Super used to be my go to converter for obscure formats, and it now supports HEVC. However, it's packed to the gills with fishy bloatware, which it sneakily installs even if you hit "decline". Spent a good half hour removing it all and doing anti-spyware sweeps yesterday.
DivX offers a free encoder, which isn't too bad. It's $10 if you want MPEG-II support.
There's f265 as well, which has no GUI at this time so it's a bit cumbersome to use.
Anything else I should be looking at?
