My GTS250 is almost a couple years old now and I'm keeping my eyes open for something to replace it with. I'd like to stay with nVidia cards, and I'd like to stay with more energy efficient cards such as the GTS250 that I currently have. I'm looking for something around $150, give or take 20.

I was under the impression that the GTX cards are a little power hungry. Is that not true with the 460's? It'll probably only be used for gaming 25% of the time so I want something with good idle power characteristics. My new coworkers are looking for a new game to play together and I want to join in, but I need something relatively powerful to game at native res of my monitor... 1920x1200.

In the days when you bought your card, nvidia had much better idle power consumption. The gtx460 is still a leader in that regard (mine idles lower than my old 4670 and much lower than my old 8800gt), but for load power, AMD kills nvidia. Something like a 6850 would be a bit faster overall and uses far less power at load and equals the 460 at idle. Just fyi. Either card would fit the bill.

The gtx460's idle's are some of the best out there. no problems there.

Edit: jeff hold off 2 more weeks and mabe grab a gtx550. Just a tip:).

^Hmm seems kind of early to replace a successful product like the gtx 460, but yeah, it might loose it's spot light after the 550's are released.

What kind of PSU do you have if you are so worried about power?

If you wanna stay with nVidia, the 460 is probably the most power efficient card they have.
