Anyone know of a good Sirf 3 GPS Logger? I want it to just keep track of where I am at what time. Other information is nice too.

It would also be nice if the logger saves to a sd card.

Thanks!

why not use your smartphone? The only issue would be the battery not lasting too long, but if you can plug it in most of the day, it should be ok.

do you want something like a continuous datalog? or would a location every 5 or 10 minutes be sufficient? the more frequent you want your data points to be, the bigger issue battery life would be....gps receivers use quite a bit of power.

my gf has a garmin forerunner 305 running watch. the battery is supposedly good for ~10 hours, and you can hook it up to a computer to download datapoints.

I was looking on using something more dependable. I figured if it were a stand alone device it could record a position every 10 or so seconds.

I thought of getting a kit for my aurduino but that's $20 (kit) + $55 (GPS)
or I could get the holux m1200 for $40 :\

Thanks btw

you should look into the gps watches then...you could just as easily strap them onto a bag or something. you might be able to find an older model for less.

Just buy a little Garmin or Magellan hiking GPS. They will allow you to record a 1hz (1 point per second) track with WAAS (smartphones don't have WAAS) and get the track to your computer in GIS shapefile format easily. Each point will have a time stamp, with exact satellite time.

Some of them even last 20 hours on a couple AA batteries.

It's for a couple of causes:
Personal:
I want to be able to geotag photographs
My girl friend is getting a certification in GIS and would like data to map

Work:
I need this device to record where ground workers have gone to and at what time so I can correlate that to the time that they entered data in their tablet PCs.

1hz might be too much information but I don't see that being a problem. The cost of the device might be a problem. I'm trying to get my boss to order a holux m1200 because it logs data and it has bluetooth.

Thanks for the help :D
