My dad bought a:

SMC Barricade g 2.4GHz 54Mbps Wireless Broadband Router with USB Print Server, Model SMC2804WBRP-G for about a $120.

needless to say the printer port on the router doesn't seem to work. After reading reviews on newegg and a few other places of people saying "forget it" when refering to the print server feature of the router, I can only assume it is time to return the router and get a new one.

My dad does not need alot of features on his router, he just needs a printer port, and reliability. If it's complex, I can help ,him out, but it needs to be reliable. He prefers wireless Lan in addition to 4 ethernet ports, but if those features have to be acquired by using seperate appliances, that is no big deal.

In short:
Printer port/server
4 ethernet ports
Broadband router
Wireless lan

Any suggestions?

I would not get an all-in-one, its just bound to have problems. For your budget, you should be able to get a seperate print server and router and have it be much more reliable.

Recommended brand names, models?

Also, if we are using a cable modem (IP assigned by DHCP) and multiple computers, how do I configure the whole setup so that all computers can access the printer/print server through the router?

Is the printer parallel or USB ? If it is parallel, this seems to have good ratings on amazon:link. For the router, thishttp://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10344769&loc=101&sp=1[/L][/L] combo seems to have the best performance . See this thread for more info.

The D-link 624 have some problems. You have to make sure it's a C2 revision (written on the box under the UPC code) otherwise it will give you headaches. Check this review
