Looking for a good webcam?

I am looking for good webcams that we can use to send video through Skype or other services to see new baby additions.

I don't know about good webcams right now.
I would like good color and light pickup with good speed and resolution capability. If it exists I would like good picture quality but with a somewhat low bandwidth compressed stream.

Please give me suggestions of what you like or what is good to get.

Thanks.

There arent any good one... all affordable (under 100) are 640x480... and megapixel for still photos.

Supposely the Apple one is good but it only works with macs.. they have some nice fancy software for it.. otherwise, it'll be the logitech quickcam pro series.. i have a 3000 & 4000 series.. its okay but nothing spectular

I have NOT tried either of these, however the specs are good and I usually like Logitech's products........

QuickCam® Orbit MP

Or

QuickCam® Fusion?

From the specs and features they probably have the same sensor.....

And, of course, cheaper here:

Logitech 961403-0403 WebCam - Retail - NewEgg

and

Logitech 961422-0403 Orbit MP WebCam - Retail
HOWEVER,

Like the above poster stated, they are limited to 640x480 video capture.

Do you have a video camera and a capture card? That would probably be one solution, however, you may be limited by the software you use. I do not know what software you would use for that though.

Thanks, I will look into these.

Do they have any special features like optical zoom.

I don't have a camcorder. That would probably give me better quality, but once I find something, I would like to send them out to people or at least tell them were to get it so we can all see each other.

I don't believe either have zoom.

Actually, I guess they have "manual zoom". A little known feature where you move the camera closer to you, or farther away. 😉

Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 has quality control problem. If you're unlucky, you might get one with a horizontal (either purple or yellow) running across the webcam sensor. I recommend Creative Ultra NX if you don't want to deal with the hassle of returning several cameras in order to find a good one.

The only good cam I found are those security pc cameras... they have 800x600 + but they cost about 300-1000 each... too much for web cam.. 🙂

Those security cameras are sweet! However, GrammatonJP is right about that being too much $$ for a webcam.

The Logitechs I previously mentioned have a different image sensor than the Quickcam 5000.

Here is a link to some webcam reviews.....

Cowboy Frank's webcam reviews

This site cracks me up.........

sweet site.. i was looking for a higher res camera... some guy walks his dog and poops around the front yard and doesn't clean... next time ill shoot the guy.. hahah

I went through all the camera information section of that site after posting the review page. There is lots of great information and the guy does a pretty good job at reviewing each of the cameras. Also, there are links to several Web Cam programs, some free, and information on setting up as web cam.

For your problem, just collect the dog poop for about 3 weeks and then return it to him w/ a note ......

Something like.......

"I think you misplaced this. Don't bother thanking me, as I am always happy to return someone's property to its rightful owner."
