Have been asked a lot lately so just getting some info.
The best I found so far are the E1505 and E1705 from Dell.

On the E1505 I go with core duo 1.66, 1 GB ram, 80 GB HD DVD-RW and X1300 for just over $900.

The E1705 with a Core Duo 1.73 (C2D costs $150), and DVD-RW. 1GB, 80GB HD are standard and X1400 is $100 extra but it comes with a 17" screen but without truebrigh. Also just over $900

I did see an acer with a Turion X2 1.6, 2GB ram 120GB HD, and 15.4" also under $900, but can't remember were.

What I would want:
C2D preferred, but the C1D is comparable right, not like the P4 where the slowest C2D kills the fastest P4. Turion is also expectable.

1 GB ram. Is worth it to get only a single 512 MB stick and buy 512 myself?

80+ GB HD

Video I would prefer better then Intel 950, but not most important. But at least a 15.4" inch display, preferably with brightness coating.

A DVD-RW as I believe external DVD-RW are still pricey.

And at least a 6 cell battery.

Everything else I think should be about even for all laptops.

If this sounds good then good, but I would like to know what else good is out there.
Also, are there any additional deals or coupons that I can look for to make this even better?

Thanks

Thanks, I think the Dells are still in the lead, espetialy the E1505, faster C2D, ATI graphcs.

Some do need a 17" display so the 1705 seems the best here so far.

If you need/want 17", theres really no better value than the E1705. As long as it works as 90% of them do it'll be great for you.
