looking for a good source/recommendation for shift knobs

What do you mean by a "good" shift knob? A shift knob is non-functional, so I assume you mean one that looks good, which is a matter of opinion. :) Check your local auto parts store. Circuit City sells them too, surprisingly.

I'll give se7enty7 a bit of credit and say that the original is probably just utter crap or got broken.

Okay, hands up who else has broken a shift linkage. Mind you, it was on an 88 Corolla. ;)

B&M makes good, inexpensive knobs
MOMO makes great knobs, expect to pay more.

Check this place out, I got a cool knob here. Nice guy and realtively quick ship. All of them are custom made so the turn around is usually a little over a week. You can even send in stuff for him to set into the knob material.
