I recently started working for a religious based non-profit K-8 school that is in the process of doing fundraising for some remodeling and construction work. They decided to create a small product to sell to help raise funds, created a website on squarespace, and put it up for sale. Last year, they made 1 whole sale for $20, at a cost of almost $190, kinda going backwards there. Anyway, they just tasked me to update the page, and see what I can do it make it easier to purchase, and reduce costs.
Squarespace seems to be one of the cheapest sites for doing this, but I'm not much for their templates they use, and it seems to cause way too many steps in order to actually put the 1 item they are selling into a cart and checkout.
I've never built or worked on any form of eCommerce site, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any good sites that are cheap, or built for Non-Profits with reduced prices, so that I can easily sell this 1 item. I'm fairly good with HTML, PHP, and Javascript, so writing a page wouldn't be too horrible, but then I have to worry about hosting, SSL certs, and payment processing.
I've even considered selling via Amazon, Etsy, etc, but they are a custom product that is not handmade, so it doesn't easily fit to either site.
Anyone have any ideas?
