Looking for a good RTS game

I'm looking for a good RTS game to get into. Last one I played was Total Annihlation. Two that I'm looking at are Rise of Nations and C&C Generals. Which one is recommended? I don't want to spend time & money on both.

My system specs:

AMD Athlon 1.4
512MB 266mhz DDR-SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9700
19" monitor

Thanks

Having played both I find C&C better. Rise of Nations got kinda old in a hurry.
I guess it's a little of a taste thing, but I keep whipping out the C&C CD and we play it regular at our little LAN's.

Ah... and what a cool game TA was back then. Mass Armies..., big guns and pices flying all over... I need to reload that for old times sake! 😉

I actually reinstalled TA a few weeks ago and started playing again. It's still a good game, although the AI is dumb as hell.

Rise of Nations isn't a regular, straight-forward RTS like TA or C&C. It involves a lot of development. I see it as a mix between SimCity and Warcraft, with an emphasis on the RTS element.

There seems to be mixed reviews about C&C: Generals. I really enjoyed it, but other people hated it. I thought it was a fun, quick game to play. The different sides are varied enough to keep things interesting.

I posted my take on RTS games a while back - It got a bit wordy so I wont type it again, but check my post in this thread.

I'm not a big fan of Generals myself - see post above.
