last decent RPG I played was, ohh man imo they have really sucked lately. I'm not a big fan of Baldur's Gate series. I liked Diablo II a lot.

The reason I didn't like BG was not because its deeper, I like depth, but for 2 main reasons, I don't like the d&D translated to computer dice system that they use, and I didn't like the way the world map worked with a bunch of large squares of land connected by a large overworld map. Thought that was lamo.

Everquest was fun for awhile, but it got lame.

Betrayal at Krondor from 1993 was awesome. It can be had for free on the net now.

Baldur's gate is nothing like Final Fantasy. I'm not sure what other games are like FF for the PC, but the Baldur's Gate series is not it.

Yup FF7 & FF8 are out on PC, FF9 isn't :(
Baldur's Gate....hmm....maybe think of it as a much more complex and detailed Diablo? But no click-fest, it's a lot more strategy since it's based on D&D rules.
Games like the Final Fantasy series on PC would be...Anachronox just went Gold, it should be out soon, and reviews seem to say that it's awesome, I also picked up Vampire: Redeption which is pretty cool, I haven't really played it much lately though.
Septerra Core I found at EB for $10 I think a little while ago, it's more of a Final Fantasy style game. I haven't played it yet though so I don't know how the story is. There's a demo to download and try if you want though.

Get a nintendo emulator and play Final Fantasy 3 (US) I think it's 6 Japanese. That's the best RPG ever. I've played many others and I always find myself coming back to FF3. Great story, Excellent graphics for it's time.

The main site appears to be down at the moment, but search for RPG Maker 2000, and you will be able to make your own Fianl Fantasy style rpg's.

FF7 isn't expensive anymore, and its a damn good game. Looks nice at a higher res than on TV too.

I'm not a turned-based RPG fan, so Diablo II appealed to me a lot.

I remember a Zeldaesque shareware demo that came on the PC Gamer CD a looooonnnng time ago. It was actually a ton of fun. Here's a link to Dink Smallwood, although the page's graphics arent loading for me. Might try some of the abandonware pages, I think there was one called TheUnderdogs.net or .org or something.

<< final fantasy 7 or 8 are really great games.... >>

not 8. I've only played these RPG games: Ultima 9, FF7, FF8, and FF9 (currently on FF9) Ultima 9 is the best so far. I havent played Baldursgate series, but i heard its cool. I might pick that one up today ;)

danny~!

FF7 & FF8 you should be able to find in the sub $20 sections now at your local computer store, the last place I remember would be Electonics Boutique. Haven't tried Dink Smallwood, all I remember is that it was from the maker of LORD, one of the BEST BBS games that ever graced ANSI screens! :D
Summoner might be another game to look at, as well as the upcoming Neverwinter Nights (from the screenshots this game looks like it'll be pretty cool!)

But of course, you just can't beat the original SNES and those grey block cartridges! FF2, FF3, Chrono Trigger, Secret Of Mana...

Baldur's gate is nothing like Final Fantasy.

Yes, I agree .

Nothing beats the old nes Final Fantasy :) Well not true, but I spent hours on that game.

I was dissapointed in Baldurs Gate 2...Diablo should not even be called an RPG IMO....I mean I know it is, but not my idea of one. I liked the Wizardry series. The new FF series have too many cutscenes...I don't like those much...waste of disk space.

I come from playing al the old pen & paper RPG's i.e D&D, Gamma world, Tunnels&Trolls, Palladium, Boot Hill, Traveller....man I've played them all, LOL.
