Looking for a good router...

Hi everyone. I currently have an extremely old Linksys router. I got it before my Pentium 4 Desktop, so that makes it older than 2005 which makes it extremely old. It still runs only on "b" wireless. Anyways, I'm interested in buying a new router and here is what I'm looking for:

1. Reliable/long lasting. The old router I have has been good to me for so long, so hopefully the next one I buy will be just as reliable. This is the most important one.
2. b/g wireless.
3. External antenna.
4. I plan to use the stock firmware and not do any flashing of any sort, mainly because I don't know how to and I don't want to brick a new router for no reason :)

Thanks for reading!

Like Engineer said, you can't go wrong with Buffalo (although I will admit I've never used Buffalo products, just heard a lot of good press about their products).

The link I pasted, is one of the more reliable Linksys routers (a newer version of what you have). I bought this approximately 8+ months ago and I've had no issues with data transmissions in a 130+ year old house. So far with 3 wireless devices connected at one point, and with proper QoS settings, the router had no issues. While this Linksys model is particularly expensive (compared to the Buffalo router mentioned above), you do get what you paid for.

Yeah like I said, I don't wanna do any firmware flashing etc, so is there anything better than the Buffalo for this purpose?

Linksys still makes quality stuff.

The newer models kinda suck and you can't even flash them. Hell, the old models sucked without a firmware flash to DD-WRT, tomato or other non-standard firmware.

On the other hand with all due respect this is a None Quality remarks.

Linksys makes a lot of Entry Level hardware. Some are very good, some mediocre, and some "Trashy". So just the word Linksys does Not mean much.

I the case of the WRT54G, which is the comparable to the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54.

The Buffalo Wireless is superior to the Wireless of the WRT54g which is mediocre and bellow.

The Asus mentioned above is a little better than the WRT54G, and cost half of it price.

Hmm, stuck between the Buffalo/Asus, but a lot of reviews on newegg say that both have crappy stock firmware. Maybe I should just learn how to flash it so I can get better firmware?

The few times that I use the Asus I flashed it immediatly so i can Not attest to its stock firmware.

I have few Buffalos, one is flashed with Tomato (very very easy to flash).

One is running DD-WRT.

One is working for two Years with the stock firmware.

I flashed in order to compare and give people honest feedback about the differences.

Since the result showed that there is No real differences in the performance, I never bother to flash them all to one firmware.

The remarks on NewEgg have to be read in a very special way in order to be helful.

The perception of what the term Con means is viewed by many people in a very Bizzare way.

As an example if something is different than previous hardware that a user bought for whatever reason years before, and the new current hardware has new interface.

Making a remark in the Con that the interface of the new hardware is different than what the user is used to, is Not a Con of the new hardware per-se.

It might be a Con if One is asked to rate the user on is intellectual capacity to easily adapt to a new situation.

I've decided to go with Asus. Thanks for all the advice guys :)

I've got a guide on flashing it to DD-WRT so I'm ok with it if the stock firmware sucks as some people say.
