I've recently found myself in the market for a new system...and I'm trying to find something pretty unique...I think.
I'm looking for a motherboard with support for creating RAID sets against both PATA and SATA drives. I have a couple of 80GB PATA and 60GB PATA and even a 45GB PATA that I would like to turn into one large raid set. Now I realize that none of these are SATA, but I'm expecting to buy a few SATA drives as well over time and replace the PATAs.
The point is to create a 5-6 drive RAID 0 set with lots of little, basically useless drives. I want to replace the processor at the same time with an AMD 64 (939). so it has to be something new.
I've seen the ASUS A8N-E and it seems to support this, but I'm not sure if this is the only board...? I think that it's a function of the nForce4 chipset...but I'm looking for the best board to implement this with the most channels.
any thoughts?
thanks
