Weller. You can get smaller, adjustable Weller's for under 50 and they are very good.

Yes. With a good iron and tip and enough heat, solder will stick to many metals including silver. Hell, I've soldered the cheap costume junk at work for others and it held just fine.

Agreed, Metcal is the defacto. They are pricey but you will not find a better more flexible iron for the $$$.
