We are in South Carolina ... known for golf ... not for skiing :)

Son has spring break first week of April. Perhaps I could take him skiing ... if I knew where to go.

Any thoughts ? It needs to be an easy grade ... will be our first attempt at skiing.

Thanks !

canaan valley WV is not so bad. the reason that it actually exists as a ski area is because pilots would fly over and realize that it was always one of the first places to get snow, and last places that snow was on the ground.

April? I dunno bout that...but NOW would be a great time to go...

I highly recommend looking into the house rentals with canaan valley rentals, you can get a house that sleeps 6-8 for ~$500-800 for 4-5 nights...And it has a hot tub, lots of room etc.

Skiing in Boone, NC. It's not great, but should be enough for someone just starting out.

I don't know if it's got enough for a full week of skiing either. Probably 3 - 4 days worth at most, but you might get more since you're new.

You're not going to find much in that area in April...even during the season. I would highly recommend against Boone if it's your first time. Skiing in NC is all Ice, no powder. It's dangerous, and you will have no fun. Best bet is Sugar Mountain in WV (or Virginia? can't remember).

If you want to travel a little more, then head up ot the New Hampshire/Vermont area. Mt Washington has decent slopes.

By the time April rolls around the only places with decent amounts of good snow will be in Central/Northern NH, VT & Maine ... Killington has one of the the biggest snow-making systems in the world in cetral Vt, Attitash - Bear Peak in northern NH is pretty good & maybe the best is Sunday River in northwestern Maine & during a good snow-year you'll find plenty of skiing for a week, however this year has been pretty crappy, so be sure to research conditions carefully before spending a lot of money.

The only time I've gone to an Eastern resort was Stowe and it was great.
Snowed evevry day and they even had night skiing.

Closer to you would be Snowshoe in WV.
Pretty big resort.
