Hey I dont play many games except for some strategy ones.. anyway i have a bloody good gaming computer that never reaches its full potential... So I was wondering if anyone that knows a lot about different games out there could suggest a game for me..

I am thinking that I would like to play a game centered around space and maybe something that plays a little like Descent (but not totally like it)...something that takes brains but also lots of space scraft fighting.. i play a lot of starcraft, so if i could find a newer 3d game that captures that overall creative and spacy feeling, thatd be cool.

i dont know.. im just looking for some game titles and ill just research from there..

thanks

I'm still waiting for game like you describe.

The space genre seems to be dead ATM

You basically just described Homeworld and the sequel. You played them? Graphically dated today, but if you haven't played em you should spend $20 and check em out. You'll certainly be able to run them at the absolute best settings which imo will look fantastic.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War? I'm a Starcraft fan and found this game very enjoyable and the graphics/sound are certainly more modern.

A worthy RTS, to be sure. No space combat however, though it is SCI-FI (the 40K stands for the 41st millenium).

If you're willing to wait I think the Star Wars RTS coming up soon called Empire At War or somehting like that looks VERY promising

There's turn based stuff like Galactic Civilizations too, if you're into that. Gal Civ 2 is coming out fairly soon.

EDIT: I suppose its only looking fun to me since i like the original SC so much.. it will be cool to see the stuff form a 3d FPS perspective..

IMO you summarized X3:Reunion in your first post. A space game that requires some brains but with fighting and will really test a good gaming rig. I havn't played it since the recent patch, but it deffinitely sounds like it fits the description. I've been meaning to give it another go...

You'd prolly dig Eve Online

But definately get homeworld - it's a shame to miss that game if you're into 3d space combat.

There's X3 though I've never tried it.

Have you played Rome Total War. Fight a large battle with large units with 8 armies and it will use up quite a bit of a PCs resources.

What's X3 Like? I found it's web site but there's so little info about what the gameplay is like...

is it anything like Independence War 2? Almost looks like it is from the screen shots.

Does it require a joystick?

Space Rangers 2 : Dominators

I've never played this, but I've read really good things posted about it before... the game sounds like a lot of fun. It's space based, has strategy, is an open ended game. Sounded very fun, but not a big name title. I may pick it up myself sometime because I thought it sounded cool... sounds like it'd be up your alley.

No no no. Don't get it, don't be tricked like I was. A steaming pile of crap it is.

From your link:
n X3 you don?t necessarily need to follow the main plot and you can simply continue to trade with other races and build factories or just go about on your own exploring the vast universe as long as you want.

I think I'm sold!

thanks for the recommendation!

Can you give a little explanation as to why you think Space Rangers 2 is a 'steaming pile of crap'?

I'm just curious because I purchased the game and have gotten at least 40+ solid hours of game play from my investment. A dollar an hour ain't bad at all. I love it for what it is, but I knew what it was going into it - not a first person space flight/fighter simulation. It's a hybrid game that is loads of fun, but if you're looking for a descent-like game, this is not it. The only negative about Space Rangers 2 for me was the RTS planetary battle part of the game, which you can avoid completely, not have it negatively impact the game, and still have tons to do.

Just my 2 cents.
