Looking for a good multifunction printer.

I am currently shopping for a multifunction printer for my mother - printer/scanner/copier, fax is optional. Her price limit is around $300.

I am looking at three different MFP's, the HP Officejet 6110, the Canon MultiPASS F60, and the HP PSC 950.

I have an older HP Deskjet 722, it has worked beautifully for me for over five years now - have to replace ink cartridges twice a year or so (I think, I don't really keep track). However, while reading reviews I have heard numerous negative comments regarding newer HP products and their ink usage. Has anyone here encountered this problem?

I would prefer to go an HP printer, as they are what I am relatively familiar with, but I (obviously) want to get the best product that my mother can afford. Does anyone have any advice they can offer?

EDIT: I should clarify exactly what she's looking for - she wants to get into scrapbooking and being able to make cards and manipulate older family photos on her computer, and so forth - the printer needs to have a relatively high quality photo quality capability, but needs to include the other two/three functions as well.

On the other hand, if she might be better off getting a separate printer/scanner for around the same price, does anyone have a combo they would recommend?

If that Canon has the "single ink" technology, then I'd prefer that over the others.

But anyhow. If you want the scanner and printer to be REALLY good, get separate units that really match your requirements. You'd want a printer with a really small dot size (2 picoliters is state of the art) like a Canon i450, i850 or i950, and a decent scanner with a wide color gamut.

My mother, who is also into scrapbooking, loves her HP PSC 1200, and it's only $88 at Sam's Club (plus optional $13 for 3-year extended warranty, which might be nice for mom).

I think all HP scanners are great, so I would just find the features you want (do you need 35mm capability?). The 3500C and the 3570C are both dandy.

I saw the HP PSC2210 at Costco for around 170(might be less). It's does a decent job printing out color picture, I haven't had a chance to test out its photo capabilities though. I mainly use it for faxing and printing out copies.

How loud is it when it prints?
