looking for a good laptop

i'd like a laptop that's around 1" thick, somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 lbs (less is always better), integrated wifi & ethernet nic, internal dvd/cdrw combo drive, usb 2.0 and maybe firewire and bluetooth. speed isn't too important but at least 1ghz or better, 20 gb hd, 256 mb ram. i'm not interested in apple. extra battery potential is always welcome. thoughts?

Ibm T series is probably the closest you'll get. You'll just have to forget about usb 2.0 and bluetooth though. Those are rare in laptops.

He said he's not interested in apple ...... which is unfortunate 🙂

i know, but my reason for not being interested in apple is not something i can entirely help. i'm only going to be owning this laptop for 6 months, at which point it will be given to my family, who have just become semi-comfortable with windows and i'm not going to be able to be apple tech support for them. but basically, yes, i would like a mac laptop that's a pc. (does soft windows xp exist yet?)

I'm inclined to agree... I've had 2, a T21 & T23 and the IBM T series rock.

But if you want the absolute smallest and lightest laptop, and don't mind sacrificing a little screen size, i'd go with the IBM X series. The thing is just flat out TINY.

I gotta agree, the IBM ThinkPad T, R or X series is your best bet.

IBM ThinkPad T23 for $1,499

Drool!
