the peacekeeper is cool. you can't go wrong with cold steel knives.

have you thought about a neck knife? my favorite is the Culloden. They are so cool, and the best part is you can wear that thing and never have to worry about getting your knife out fast enough. It just pulls right out of the sheath that is hanging on your neck. It's fast.

Cold steel is a good brand. Have you looked at the SRK? Ive had mine for about 7 years now without any problems! I bought a bunch of throwing knives from them around the same time, and they are still good too.

Yep cold steel makes good knives along with quite a few other companies, quick question first though. Do you have any real training with the knife? And do you know about the local laws for carrying and usage?

I do know how to use a knife, i have taken Basic knife traning, from a martial arts teacher freind of mine. I dont care about local laws as i dont plan on killing anyone, just would like to have it if someone wanted to kill me for some reason.

spyderco. nothing else. www.spyderco.com they have a few 3.5" - 4" blade knives, the calypso jr., endura, native, delica... all of their knives are very nice. There is a guy on ebay, I think his name is 'knifesales' he sell's new spyderco's for very decient prices.

stev0 <- buys all his knives from knifesales.

Might I ask why a knife??

I always opted for the collapsable metal baton, as it looked badass, and quite effective.

I guess to each his own though..

A friend of mine has one of these and he has it loose enough so that you just have to flick your wrist to lock it into place. You can clip it anywear and if I remember right it has 2 locks for the blade.

make sure it locks good and strong. The last thing you want is to stab, have the blade collapse, and lose 4 fingers.

The problem is most basic martial arts training on knife usage and defense is bunk and as little grounding in reality. I've seen plenty of guys talk up their knife defense then I put red marker on the blade of a training knife and proceed to mark the guy up like no tomorrow. Seriously if someone pulls a knife on you the best thing to do is get the heck out of there, even if its an idiot that has no idea he will still probably cut you to some degree, its just a matter of how much.

Never thought I'd see the day, but FFMCobalt and I actually agree on something for a change!

Get a KA-BAR I had one in the Corps, and they are GOOD knifes, and somewhat cheap.

folding knives are great.
spyderco and benchmade are awesome knife manufacturers!

if it's legal in your state, get a balisong -- aka butterfly knife- - they are bad ass. :)

also, you will have to look in your local laws to see if it's legal to carry a knife on you -- and how to carry it.
