Also have to say that I find I use the scissors on my Micra much more frequently than I do the pliers on the Squirt.

Most of the time I need pliers I either need something with a lot more force behind them or more of a needlenose point than a micro-tool would be able to provide.

This.

I love my Micra. Although I need to oil the scissors. They tend to stick a bit sometimes.

Hmm all Leatherman recommendations huh?

What is wrong with Swiss Army brand? are they just overpriced?

The leatherman Squirt does look good.

Pliers? Why?

You'll never have pliers that work worth a damn in that form factor.

That said, the little swiss ones are handy for cutting nails and little stuff, which is all you can ask from a tiny thing.

Myself, I'd give up the pliers. On my main keychain I have a little gismo that has a razor sharp blade that retracts when you take your hand off it. Very reliable, small, cheap (50 cents). Also have a nail clipper, which has a file on it I rarely use. The nail clipper is good for clipping off those annoying and painful hangnails, the main reason I carry it with me. If not attended to, they can become a big problem requiring a bandaid and/or hours of pain. I keep a little plastic cap on the clipper, to prevent it ripping my pockets. I also usually carry a gentleman's knife, a very thin but pretty long stainless thing, I have several of them I picked up at a flea market for a buck apiece.

When I want to use one of these I don't want to fumble around with a complex folding gismo, I want something I can use quick and these work for me.

I love my Leatherman Micra, but it doesnt quite fit what the OP wants. Recommend the above SOG, even if its more than 20 dollars. SOG makes tools superior to most others.
Also the Swiss Army knife guys make good stuff. And if you go to thinkgeek.com you'll find some others. Like:

Theres plenty of goodies here.

Pic Clipped

The Swiss army pliers work great for small things. This is the model I carry, but it's well out of the OP's price range. Also, mine's traditional red...
