Looking to add a second hard drive to my comp for around $100. 40GB or more, ideally. Any recommendations? Any good deals around?

If your looking for quiet, I'd say either the new seagate cuda's or the maxtors with fluid motors like i have. I went from a "normal" 7200 rom drive to this maxtor, its does not make ANY noise, i was amazed. If you want pure speed, you cant go wrong with the western digital 'special edition' drives with 8mb cache.

search the hot deals forum. They always have something going like a 80gb WDSE for $80 A/R or something.

here is one example.
WD 2mb cache 40gb 7200rpm for $49.99 A/R

here is another deal for a 80gb WDSE 8mb cache for $79.99 A/R

personally I recoomend going for the 80gb WDSE

I would say go with either the WD 80GB 8MB Cache or Maxtor 80GB 8MB Cache models.

Heres a link to the thread on how to get the Maxtor for $66 @ Staples:Link

what do you want it for?

if its purely storage, a cheap 5400rpm will be perfectly fine and a fair bit cheaper (probably quieter too). If you want better performance, practically any 7200rpm hdd, erring towards a seagate 'cuda if you want quiet or a WD SE if you want best performance (and 3 yr warranty).
