Are there any good mindless hack-n-slash games out there other than Dungeon Siege, Diablo 2, and Sacred? I just finished DS: Legends of Aranna and was hoping to find another game along these lines. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

Knight of the Temple is apparently a pretty mindless hack and slash RPG. Combo moves etc.

If you've got a PS2, play Champions of Norrath. It's a great hack and slash... If not, just keep playing Diablo 2 with the LoD expansion. :)

Divine Divinity is very similar to DiabloII and there's the sequel Beyond Divinity which I'm not sure is out yet.

Yea.. its ok, but nowhere near Starbreeze's previous game, Enclave, which I totally recommend. The combat is somewhat basic and kind of lame, but its a really great looking 3d hack and slash game with plenty of levels and an assortment of characters to play as.

I also recommend Blade of Darkness (called Severance in some countries). Its a very satisfying hack and slash game with slightly complex controls but its fantastic. Its also pretty old so you could get it for dirt cheap...but... you MAY have issues running it. Maybe try a demo if it exist? You didn't say which videocard you have, but I think ATI users (such as myself) only have to deal with glitches. I think Nvidia cards are fine with the game.

edit: I see you have a Nvidia card so may have no problems with BoD. I say give the demo a try if you find it.

Beyond Divinity is out and is not a simple hack and slash game. I am playing it now and I much prefer the gameplay of Diablo.

I picked up Beyond Divinity and it sure is different than Diablo-like RPGs. I don't think I like BD as much as the DS, Diablo, or the other hack-n-slash games. :(

Actually "Divine Divinity" is a lot better then "Beyond Divinity" IMHO,I`ve played them both right up until the end and DD is way better then BD,you could try Lionheart which is a pretty good game, however it starts off slow, but you do get a lot of fighting and action the further you get into the game, also don`t forget the expansion pack for Diablo 2 called "Lord of Destruction".

for a good fps hack and slash -- painkiller

ummm...Painkiller is a fps. Not a hack and slash. How is this game a hack and slash??

I hadn't heard of "hack and slash" as a particular genre of games. What characteristics must such a game have? A third person perspective? Swords? Axes? Mace?

Painkiller was the first game that came to my mind when I heard Hack and Slash. The "painkiller" weapon in the game is a multi-bladed spinning wheel that is held out in front of you. Think meatgrinder...

Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2. Much more advanced than the D2 clones though. You actually have to think about your battles and position your 6 member party correctly.

It may not be 3D, but IWD2 is probably the best Hack 'n' Slash RPG to date. Granted, some of the NWN modules have a lot of combat, but they cannot get close IWD2 because of NWN's henchmen party system.

You could give Serious Sam or Serious Sam 2 a try if you want a more modern Doom-like experience. Both can be found pretty cheap and they even have coop multiplayer. :)

Hack and slash = RPG without a plot, puzzles or interesting dialogue, set in a medieval or fantasy world with lots of female elves in chainmail bikinis.

That's my take, anyway. :p

Icewind Dale I, II and to a certain extent Baldur's Gate I are great action-oriented games. BGII is more story-driven than the first, but there are still a lot of epic battles.

viivo hit it right on the head. :) Mindless destruction in a RPG wrapper.

I found Deus Ex 2 among my unfinished games yesterday. I threw it in and started playing again. I think I found my answer. I forgot how fun it was. I think I might actually try to finish it this time.
