Looking for a good clicky keyboard

BoberFett

Lifer
I'm looking for a new keyboard, and have been fondly reminiscing about old keyboards. In retrospect, I should have just walked out the door with the keyboards when I quit those jobs and just risked the jail time for theft.

Are there any companies making good keyboards nowadays? I'm talking big heavy clunkers of the loud clicky kind. I want something like a Northgate, IBM, or the ones Dell used to ship with their servers about 10 years ago. Everything now is lightweight and trashy, or "soft touch", or laden with useless features. The only modern feature I want is a Windows key.

Does anybody know where I can find something like this?

A while back I saw online that someone was selling some of the old IBM clicky keyboards. I forget the model and where I saw them, but you might google for it.

Thanks acole1, I have come across www.clickykeyboard.com who actually sells old IBM keyboards. That might be who you're referring to. They're almost all used as far as I can tell, as they were made 15+ years ago. Not many new in box of those around. For some reason I'm very picky about my keyboard, I don't like using other people's goods.

There's also www.pckeyboard.com which I'm considering, but they're spendy so I want to see if there are other options out there before dropping $70 or more on a keyboard. I'm just curious if anybody has firsthand experience with a decent modern keyboard that they'd recommend.

The peripherals forum has had some threads about clicky keyboards. You might want to check it out, also look in the archives.
