I need to learn C++ for this class Im taking at school (they skipped me over the intro class to get me on track since i transfered, but thats a long story). Anyhow, Im an engineering major, and i need a book to teach me C++. I dont really know any programming, so it would have to start at the begining. Any suggestions?
thanks,
-doug

we used dietel and dietel like C++ programming something like that. its a really good book.

i also read this book in high school called C++ primer plus. not nearly as good a teaching book, but a very good reference.

i think any book will do, just look for code examples online. then you are gold.

Get a book on Design Patterns. OO concepts are more important to learn than any one language. "Design Pattens" by Gamme, Helm, Johnson and Vessides is the holy grail for design patterns books.

To learn C++, just go find online tutorials. They are all ove the place.

Kearnigan and Ritchies C++ book is REALLY good. Not sure on spelling of authors though. They are pretty much the experts on the standard. Everyone whos anyone recommends that book.
