Looking for a good AGP card.

What's my best bet for an AGP card? Retail, FS/FT, Ebay, anything, I'm looking for value above anything. Willing to spend up to ~$215.

I found an x800pro flashed to x800XT card for $215 in FS. I thought that looked like a good deal. It's been a long time since I've looked at AGP cards, and ATi's lineup is a bit confusing in this area... Is the x800pro -> XT still the best unlock/overclock out there?

My problem is diminishing returns. I can pick up a used AGP 6600GT for cheap, like $120. If I could find a 6800nu fully unlocked used for $140, it would be worth the $20, see? But I wouldn't spend extra on retail 6800nu because it's not worth $60. If I'm gonna spend over $200, I want twice the performance of that 6600GT.

If it comes down to it, I'll take the nVidia card if the performance is equal for the linux performance, but right now ATi has the AGP market as far as I'm concerned. Should I wait for the 6800GS?

no, the GTO to XTPE is the best overclock, but I don't believe the AGP version unlocks (well). X800Pro -> XT is also pretty good, if you can find one for 200...

Heh, I thought the GTOs were PCIe only cards. Blah.

Does anyone know more about AGP GTOs?

on sale x800xl would be your best bet, or wait the few weeks for the 6800gs

if you want to go the unlocked route then perhaps find a used unlocked card like you mentioned... x800pro-x800xt or 6800nu-6800gt

If you can get x800xt for $200, then go for it. 6800GS might come to AGP. But performance difference between the 2 is minimal unless you play Doom3, Quake4, Chronicles of Riddick.

X800XT>x800xl

Actually, just to clarify things, my card (the one you PMd me about) is actually flashed to XT PE bios...for 215 IMO you can't really beat that, and I'm sure I could actually sell it for a bit more.

So we will see an AGP version of the 6800gs then?

No indication of when ...

from the article:
Nvidia is hoping to ship the cards in next two to three weeks, it's tight but with some luck Nvidia might hit the stores before its too late for the Yule madness shopping. We reported about Nvidia's lack of 6800 standard chip for AGP here but learned that it will replace it with new, old cards.

Not to mention volt-modded and VGA-silenced. Too bad for me. :(

I have an X800XL AGP and it OC's to 420/545..

It is pretty fast.. Obviously the X850pro OC's higher though and comes with a higher default clock, but it is a 12 pipe card- the X800XL is a 16pipe.. but the 850pro has 2 more more vertex units I believe..

I saw a benchmark where both were OC'd and they performed about the same. You can find both for pretty cheap if you are patient and look hard enough.

once in a while they will have an AGP X800pro here for 179 or so.. All the people I talk to that have bought card there say they look and smell brand new.

nope, the have the same number of vertex pipelines. those extra 4 pixel pipes makes all the difference.
