Looking for a glossy LCD. Help

I'm getting ready to replace my CRT. I have a glossy screen on my laptop and I love it. I've heard of opticlear and x-brite but I'm having a hard time finding a larger screen. I'd like at least a 20" screen, preferably 21" or 22".

Does anyone know a brand/model I should be looking for?

Thanks!

The NEC 20WMGX2 would be the obvious choice. You currently can't get them in any size larger than 20".

Question: If it's a 20" wide screen does that mean the height of the screen is about the same as a 19" non-widescreen? I hope that made sense. If I get a widescreen, I'd like to make sure it has the same height of at least a 20".

Thanks!

Yeah, the NEC is definitely the obvious choice. It is probably the best LCD monitor hands down at the moment. Its a bit pricey though. I believe Acer has a couple of 20" LCDs with a glossy coating.

I wish glossy was standard with a thin attachable part to give them anti-glare.

Are you talking resolution or actual physical size (like in inches)? If its the former then yes (slightly higher actually at 1050 versus 1024 for 19"), if its the latter then it actually is comparable to a standard 17" screen I believe.

I think it's actually only about as tall as a 17" 5:4 one. That's one disadvantage with widescreens smaller than the 23-24" range. If you find that too much of a problem, NEC is supposed to come out with a 23" version of that LCD, although that won't be until April.

I have the 19" version of the NEC, the 90GX2 and its amazing. GET IT!!! Games, photos, movies, text...it all looks perfect!!!

Buy "GET IT" I mean your choice of the 19" or 20" NEC displays...they kick butt!

I don't think that particular one has the coating but Acer does make another model with it, the AL2032WA, for around $450. The one user experience I've seen of it was quite positive, but it's somewhat hard to find in the US. Apparently it's more widely available in Europe.

I'll check it out.
I can't believe there aren't any above 20". I don't think I can live with a 20", it's too small. 🙂

Well, you could wait for the NEC 23" one as I said earlier. Be prepared to pay around $1000 for it though. 😛

I do wish this coating was more widespread though. I would take almost any LCD with the coating over any one without it. NEC is really the only manufacturer using it a lot on desktop LCDs; there are one or two other companies like Acer that use it on a few models, but it's so poorly advertised that you sometimes can't even tell which models have it from just the specs.

$1,000? :Q
I'm not much good at waiting either.

I'm not a fan of the widescreens but I'll probably get the NEC unless there is a non-widescreen out there somewhere.
