Hey guys, i'm looking for a gaming laptop that can handle up to date games such as HL2 and D3. Is there anything else out there that you guys recommend besides alienware, they are a bit pricey.

Thanks,

Ayman

AW's laptop prices aint so bad, but i would go to pctorque.com and get a sager 9860 for a little under $3000.

if thats too much consider one of their 47xx series with the MR9700 instead of the 6800go.

Dell, but then you'll get a toaster-oven P4.

For D3 and Hl2 getting a good graphics card is the most important choice.

A Radeon mobility 9700 Pro or 9800 Pro are good choices for low-medium resolution, but an nvidia 6800 go is much better. Click the Video tab at the top of the page for mobile graphics reviews.

pentium 4's pretty much have a good chunk of the gaming laptop market, the only exception being MR9700 cards and below. the MR9800 is only on the Dell (P4) and the 6800go is pci-e which is also only on P4 platforms at the moment.

The 3400 is only priced around 1,900 compared to the little under 3,000. I don't know how much of a budget his buddy is on.

whoa, those ferrai notebooks are pimp as hell...

and the price is better than the others i've seen.

well my buddy told me to find him a gaming laptop at first... then he tells me he's on a $1000 budget... i was like... "with that kind of budget you might as well just stop looking for a gaming laptop"... so if i can get him to dish out some more money for a good computer then i'll have him think about those ferrari computers.

Thanks Flu

The Emachines M68XX series of laptops can be had for around $1000 to $1250 after rebate and come w/ a Mobile Raedon 9600 altho it only has 64mb of Vram. otherwise they have excellent specs. I run HL2 @ 1280x800 on my M6805 w/out any issues. I have upgraded mine to 2GB of memory and a 7200rpm HDD tho.

Just FYI, I bought a Sager 9860 a couple of months ago, and it is worth every penney!

I know it's above your friend's budget, but for anyone else considering one, I'd recommend it. I don't have D3, but HL2 is butter smooth. On 3DMark03, I get 50% higher scores than with my old desktop, an XP2600+ with a 9700Pro.
