Looking for a game like X-Wing Alliance.

I'm looking for a good story based cockpit space sim. Xbox 360 controller support would also be great.

I played X3 AP and it's fun but, it's not a story based game.

I played Miner Wars 2081 which is fun but it was abandoned by the developer.

I have Strike Suit Zero which I'm about done with.

fralexandr: Oh, I've played a lot of Decent/Freespace. In fact back in the late 90's there was a company trying to get a VR headset product off the ground and they used Decent as one on their demo games.They were doing demo's in my town and it was really cool. Had ghosting issues if I remember correctly. Can't remember their name.

Pheran: I'll have to check that out. I haven't played a Wing Commander game in a long time. It makes me miss John Rhys-Davies in video games.

Any other suggestions would be great.

Unfortunately the space sim genre has all but died. Hopefully Star Citizen can be successful enough to revive it.

My fondest gaming memories still revolve around x-wing/tie fighter.

That was a pretty good game.

OP: I loved X-Wing vs. Tie fighter, and played through all of XWA and enjoyed it as well. I was looking for something similar about 2 years ago, and managed to install Freespace 2 (and some expansion(s)) on my macbook pro. It was a lot of fun. I didn't end up getting to finish the expansion fully, but had a good time nonetheless.

Wing Commander Prophecy was pretty awesome too. Really enjoyed that game. Nothing quite beats TIE Fighter though...

i think the missions are better. Plus more variety, like in the first part you have to do some inspections, carrying cargo thru combat, and more.

Holy smokes that looks awesome. But also overwhelming. I just play single player.....when is Squadron 42 targeted for release? I spent 30 minutes on that site and couldn't find the answer....looks like most of the information is geared towards the multiplayer aspect of the game.

The single player portion will come out before the multi-player version is done, possibly by years end but I wouldn't bank on it. If you pledge now, you get access to both($30 and higher tiers) plus alpha+beta($40 and higher tiers) and you get a better starter ship depending on pledge amount.
