looking for a free email client to use for distribution list

While I use Outlook for all my other stuff, I have a distribution list that I send my website's news to. That list is somewhat large (close to 300 addresses). Before I used to just BCC the entire list in Outlook and send out one email. Then Outlook started timing out, so I had to create a server-side email alias which contained all of the addresses. That worked great for a while, until some spammer found out the alias name and started sending viruses and spam to our distribution list. So now I'm back to Outlook and I'm trying to whole Contacts Distribution List thing (another workaround to just pasting a list in BCC, but essentially the same thing). Needless to say, that's also timing out. I'm told it's a limitation of the software. Can anyone recommend a free email client or application/script that will do this without timing out?

I'll suggest thunderbird, but I have no idea if it will do what you want. Actually, it sounds like you'd be better off setting up an rss feed than sending 300 emails...

Any half-decent SMTP server should accept the mail from your client and try to send to each recipient individually (well, it would probably group accounts in the same domain) so the sending of the mail would be dependent on network speeds mostly and 300 addresses is not that many. What SMTP server are you using?
