Looking for a flash video (flv) player

Every player I have tried either lacks a full zoom capability or a searchable progress bar. Know of a player which has both these features? Freeware if possible.

ffdshow with the player of your choice; may I recommend Media Player Classic? 😉

I never watch embedded video though (mainly due to crappy resizing) and instead download them first. Where available (Google) I opt for MP4.

I see there are many ffdshow versions (www.codecs.com/FFDShow_download.htm). Which one is best for an X2 3800 processor?
You know I detest flash video myself. Is there a way to convert an flv to other compressed formats (e.g. Xvid)? Would the new compression further deteriorate the video quality?

Using the klite codec pack, FLVs play like normal videos with Media Player Classic for me.

An SSE variant is best if supported by the CPU. X2 has support inclusive of SSE3 so no worries. However, in the past different versions have been specified so I don't know if SSE, SSE2 and SSE3 support is now generally included in the "SSE" compile or if those available in your link literally only support the original SSE.

It's all academic anyway with a peppy CPU and undemanding videos but maybe SSE would help with some higher resolution XviD or h.264 (if ffdshow's decoder is utilized in lieu of a hardware accelerated alternative).

For conversion do the google dance else go directly to videohelp or doom9.

I didn't know you could use Media Player Classic with ffdshow to view FLV files. I have ffdshow but the video doesn't play in MPC... only the audio. Do I need some other version of ffdshow, or do I need to enable some setting?

EDIT: Nevermind... I had always downloaded an older version of ffdshow, I found a new one that works. 🙂

not sure if this will work but try opening the video configuration for ffdshow. in the left pane select "Codec". in the right pane, scroll down to flv (or flv1) and select 'libavcodec'. apply, ok, close. open mpc and see if the .flv will play.

I was having some problems with ffdshow which is required for Media Player Classic to play flv videos, so I had to look for something else. I found a nifty little player which provides all the functionality I need and is free. I thought I should share this with fellow AT members:
