I do a lot of raw still pictures and video editing using Adobe CS5, adobe premiere and the basic windows movie maker. I feel like I need more horse power to speed things up. I've upgraded most of my components and now I feel like its the processor that is slowing things down.

Need your suggestion on which way to go x6 or x8 AMD? What type of cooling do I need to get? Thank you.

Current set-up:
AMD Phenom II X4 945 processor 3.00 Ghz
ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO mother board
550W OC PSU
GTX 560Ti 1g video card
12gb RAM DDR 3 1333 (4 slots)
180 Gb Intel SSD 3 series

LG BLR -RW
23inch HP 1080p monitor

Win 7 64 Bit

your cheapest option is to drop a phenom x6 into that board. the board supports 145w processors so you can go as high up that ladder as you'd like. what you're doing should work well with the additional cores.

There is no x8 despite how much some people begged for one.

Anyway Phenom II X6 is your only option without buying a new motherboard.

Here is a link with some buying options.

I'm open in buying a new board and CPU if that will make a significant difference. Will my PSU be able to handle the additional power requirement?

However, if I change my Moboard, do I need to buy another WIN 7 64bit since my copy is an OEM. Many thanks.

Edit: will this CPU work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...6819103960#top

I apologize for being a noob. I really don't know which is faster or newer processor between the Phenom II x6 Thuban or FX series.

Yes, new copy of Windows would be needed if you changed out the motherboard.

I recommend picking up an $89.99 X6 1045T Phenom II CPU at Microcenter.

That's a pretty good deal. I was able to find one online from tigerdirect.com since they ship to my address for the same price. Thanks Larry.

what? Just call them up and explain that you replaced the motherboard, then they give you the verification code and you're good to go

I would wait until the end of October for the FX8320/8350 and then decide what to do.

It will definitely will not work with his current Mobo, but at least he will know what the new FX will bring and then decide what action to take.

Looks like the OP already got this:

$89 for a X6 Phenom II is a cheap price to upgrade his system.

Should be enough of an upgrade to hold you over until the next-gen of cpu's next year.

I would hope so. Any improvement is always welcome. This cpu is probably one of the cheapest but essential component just like the RAM. Total cost for the CPU upgrade is around $95 including shipping. Thank you all for your suggestions.
