I need an antenna I can attach to my trailer which is permanently setup about 12 miles from my works AP. I will be attaching it via USB, I get a very VERY weak signal with my internal wifi so I am thinking this will solve all my problems...with wifi.

you can TX to the AP all day long with a directional antenna and a LNA pushing that power easy. The problem becomes the output power of the AP. More than likely the AP is TX no more than 251 mW (the legal limit EIRP allowed in the US, though one can easily increase the power above this). The signal coming off the AP to you is going to be the issue unless you add a LNA in your setup. You're looking a decent capital investment to get this to work, and work reliably.

Ok...Well I am out in the desert in nevada, and its a 2.4ghz system. And I have line of sight. I will take the risk of failing, but I am wondering what antenna would give me the best odds

A directional yagi will do just fine. It will offer higher gain and TX/RX both vertical and horizontal polarities (being that you may not know what polarity the AP will be - though normally most commercial AP's will be TX'ing horizontally with the normal dipole antenna they come with).

Attach a USB Wireless via a USB cable that place it out or by the Windows facing the direction of the signal source.

Get a USB Wireless that allows to change an Antenna.

Example - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166068

If the native Antenna does not provide a strong enough signal, then replace it with High gain Directional Antenna like in the link by billyb0b.
